Open till 9 PM, seven days a week

Pallikaranai stays open until 9 PM, Monday to Sunday, two hours later than most Yaal centres. Many women come straight from work, or on a weekend morning, instead of taking half a day's leave every month.

Pregnancy alongside an OMR job

Many of the women we see work in the Perungudi IT parks, at Global Infocity or SP Infocity, or further down OMR in Thoraipakkam and Sholinganallur. The centre is on Velachery Main Road, and the 200 Feet Radial Road links it to OMR.

Long desk hours, a daily commute, late calls and early-pregnancy nausea are a hard mix. We talk about all of it at your visits: what to eat at work, getting up from the desk often, travel in each trimester, and when to plan your maternity leave.

Families from Medavakkam, Keelkattalai, Kovilambakkam, Nanmangalam and Jalladianpet also find Pallikaranai the easiest Yaal centre to reach, along Medavakkam Main Road and the Velachery–Tambaram Main Road.

An after-work check-up, step by step

  1. 1

    Weight, BP and urine

Done first. Mention any headaches, swelling or spotting since your last visit.

  2. 2

    Time with your obstetrician

Your reports, your symptoms, and how you are sleeping and feeling. Work worries count too.

  3. 3

    Scan, if one is due

Routine pregnancy ultrasound in the centre's own scan room, in the same visit.

  4. 4

    Blood tests

Samples are taken here. A few tests, such as some sugar tests, need you to fast first. For those, your doctor will ask you to come in the morning, often on a weekend.

  5. 5

    Medicines

Folic acid, iron, calcium or anything newly prescribed, from the pharmacy in the centre.

Questions We Hear Often

Can I come for a check-up after office hours?+
Yes. Yaal Pallikaranai is open until 9 PM every day, including weekends, so evening visits after work are common.
Will my baby be born at the Pallikaranai centre?+
No. Pallikaranai is an outpatient centre. In the third trimester your doctor plans the birth with you at Yaal's Kilpauk hospital, which has the labour rooms, theatres and neonatal unit.
I'm finding pregnancy stressful. Is there help?+
Yes. Dr. Anuvigashini M has a special interest in perinatal mental health. Anxiety, poor sleep and low mood are part of what we check, and there is a counselling room at the centre.
How far is the centre from OMR?+
The centre is on Velachery Main Road in Pallikaranai. The 200 Feet Radial Road connects it to OMR, so women working in Perungudi or Thoraipakkam usually come straight from the office.
I got pregnant after fertility treatment. Can I have my check-ups here?+
Yes. Your antenatal care can continue with the same doctors, with closer checks in the first weeks.
Can I have my NT or anomaly scan here in the evening?+
Routine pregnancy scans, yes. The NT and anomaly scans are specialised screening scans that your doctor arranges for you, so ask about timing when they are booked.
What should I bring if I come in after work?+
Keep a small folder in your bag: scan and blood reports from this or a previous pregnancy, your blood group card, and the supplements and medicines you use. Have the date of your last period handy, since every early plan starts from it.
How much is an evening check-up?+
The same as any other time: ₹300 to ₹600 for a consultation with ultrasound. Blood test costs are explained before samples are taken.
