Routine antenatal visits a short walk from Tambaram station, with Dr. Rukkayal Fathima and a clear plan for the birth.
Founded by Dr. Rukkayal Fathima, MRCOG (UK) · 15+ years
The Tambaram centre is at No. 4, Rajaji Road, West Tambaram, a short walk from Tambaram railway station. Suburban and mainline trains stop there, and GST Road, the Tambaram–Velachery Main Road and Mudichur Road all lead to the centre.
Women come from East and West Tambaram, Tambaram Sanatorium, Chromepet, Selaiyur, Camp Road, Rajakilpakkam, Madambakkam, Mudichur, Perungalathur, Peerkankaranai, Hasthinapuram, Chitlapakkam and Sembakkam.
Many work at the MEPZ Special Economic Zone in Tambaram Sanatorium or in offices along GST Road in Chromepet. With the centre this close, a check-up does not have to mean a lost day.
Dr. Rukkayal Fathima, who founded Yaal, sees women for antenatal care here. She is trained in obstetrics and high-risk pregnancy, so a straightforward first pregnancy and one with BP, sugar or a past loss can both be followed on Rajaji Road.
The first trimester is when most questions come up. Here is what usually happens.
Book your first visit
6–8 weeks from your last period
Come sooner if you have pain, bleeding, or a condition such as thyroid or diabetes that needs medicine.
Dating scan
First visit
Confirms the pregnancy is in the uterus, checks the heartbeat and sets your due date.
First blood and urine tests
First visit
Blood group, haemoglobin, thyroid, sugar and infection screening, taken at the centre.
NT scan and screening blood test
11–13 weeks
Screening for chromosomal conditions. Dr. Rukkayal Fathima arranges it, and the window is short, so it is booked early.
Into the second trimester
From 14 weeks
Nausea often eases around now. Visits settle into a monthly routine.
Where your baby will be born
Births are not done at Tambaram. Your check-ups happen here, and the birth is planned at Yaal's Kilpauk hospital, which has labour rooms, a neonatal care unit and an ICU. Dr. Rukkayal Fathima goes through this with you in the third trimester.

Spotting or cramps in the first weeks
A scan shows whether the pregnancy is in the uterus and growing as expected.
Vomiting that won't settle
If you can't keep food or water down for a day, come in. Medicine and fluids help.
A thyroid or sugar condition before pregnancy
Doses often need changing in the first weeks, so come as soon as your test is positive.
A past miscarriage
An early scan and a closer schedule in the first trimester.
Photographed at the centre.
