PCOS and period problems top the list, but any concern is welcome.
PCOS or PCOD
Confirmed or ruled out properly, then a plan for cycles, skin, hair and weight.
Irregular or missed periods
Thyroid problems, high prolactin, stress, weight change and PCOS are the usual causes, and all can be tested for.
Acne, facial hair and hair fall
Often a sign of raised male-type hormones, not only a skin problem.
Heavy periods and clots
Checked for fibroids, polyps and anaemia.
Painful periods and pelvic pain
Assessed with an ultrasound, including for endometriosis and cysts.
White discharge and infections
Swabs if needed, and treatment that usually clears it within days.
Menopause
Night sweats, irregular last periods, and any bleeding once periods have stopped for a year.
Pre-marriage check-up
A health check and contraception advice, if and when you want them.
Come by train or road
No. 4, Rajaji Road, West Tambaram
A short walk from Tambaram railway station, on both the suburban and mainline routes. GST Road, Tambaram–Velachery Main Road and Mudichur Road all lead to West Tambaram.
History first
Private consulting room
The doctor asks about your cycle dates, skin and hair changes, weight and any family history of diabetes. An examination is done only with your agreement, and unmarried women have a scan over the abdomen.
Scan and blood tests
Same centre
A pelvic ultrasound and blood samples for hormones, thyroid and blood count, usually in the same visit. Some hormone tests are timed for day 2 to 5 of your period.
Treatment and follow-up
On-site pharmacy
Medicines before you leave, and a review once results are in.

Women from Chromepet, Selaiyur, Sembakkam, Chitlapakkam and Hasthinapuram often come in with a 'PCOD' label from a single scan. A scan alone is not enough. PCOS is diagnosed when at least two of three signs are present: irregular or missed periods, signs of raised male-type hormones (acne, extra facial or body hair, or a high blood level), and many small follicles on the ovaries. Thyroid and prolactin problems, which can look similar, are ruled out first. Some women turn out not to have PCOS at all.
When it is confirmed, the plan starts with what bothers you most: irregular periods, skin, hair fall or weight. Regular activity, better sleep and losing even a small amount of weight help many women, and medicines are added where they make a clear difference.
PCOS is common and manageable, but it is long-term. It raises the chance of diabetes and high cholesterol later in life, so a yearly check of weight, blood sugar and blood pressure is part of good care. Going three months or more without a period is also worth reporting, because the womb lining needs to shed regularly.
For women commuting to the MEPZ Special Economic Zone at Tambaram Sanatorium or to GST Road offices in Chromepet, a centre this close to Tambaram station makes follow-up visits easy to fit around the train.
When to come sooner
Pain on one side with a positive pregnancy test needs care the same day. Bleeding between periods or after sex, bleeding after menopause, or a sudden change in a cycle that used to be regular is worth a visit within days.
