Consultations, scans, keyhole surgery and a bed for the night if you need one, in one building on Poonamallee High Road, a short walk from Kilpauk Metro.
Founded by Dr. Rukkayal Fathima, MRCOG (UK) · 15+ years
Most visits to a gynecologist end with a conversation, a scan and perhaps a blood test. A few go further: a fibroid behind months of heavy bleeding, an ovarian cyst that is still there on the second scan, or a polyp in the womb lining. At Kilpauk, that next step happens in the same building, with the same doctors.
Alongside the consulting and ultrasound rooms, the hospital has operation theatres, a recovery room, in-patient rooms, an emergency and triage area and an X-ray room. Your scan, your operation and your review visit sit in one file, so nobody has to piece your story together from three different hospitals.
The hospital is at No. 747, Poonamallee High Road, Alagappa Nagar, a short walk from Kilpauk Metro on the Green Line. Women come from Anna Nagar, Aminjikarai, Purasaiwalkam, Chetpet, Shenoy Nagar, Villivakkam and Perambur, and from offices in Egmore and Nungambakkam. New Avadi Road and Taylors Road both lead here.
Anna Nagar is next door, and the Egmore and Nungambakkam business district is a few minutes away, so many women come in before or after work, or during a long lunch.
No referral is needed. Most of these settle with medicines and follow-up scans. Surgery is mentioned only where it is sometimes the answer.
Heavy or irregular periods
A scan looks for fibroids or polyps, and blood tests check haemoglobin, thyroid and hormones.
Fibroids
Very common and almost always non-cancerous. Small ones that cause no trouble are left alone. Ones that cause heavy bleeding or pressure can be treated with medicines or removed by laparoscopy or hysteroscopy.
Ovarian cysts
Many are linked to the cycle and disappear within two or three months. A repeat scan shows whether yours is shrinking or needs removing.
Polyps and a thickened lining
A common cause of spotting between periods. Hysteroscopy lets the doctor look inside the womb and remove a polyp in the same sitting.
Endometriosis and pelvic pain
Pain with periods, with intercourse or when opening the bowels. The doctor maps when it comes and how much it limits you before planning treatment.
PCOS and hormone problems
Missed periods, acne, extra facial hair or weight gain, checked with hormone tests and a scan.
White discharge and infections
Discharge that smells, itches or changes colour. Swabs are taken if needed, and treatment usually starts that day.
Menopause
Hot flushes and broken sleep in the late forties, and any bleeding once periods have stopped for a year.
Cervical screening
A Pap smear takes a few minutes in the consulting room. Book it for a day when you are not bleeding.
Severe pain or heavy bleeding needs same-day care
Come in the same day, or go to the nearest emergency department, for sudden severe pain low in the abdomen, fainting, bleeding that soaks a pad every hour for two hours in a row, or any pain or bleeding with a positive pregnancy test. Kilpauk has an emergency and triage area, Dr. Nandhini G M's work includes gynaecological emergencies, and the theatre is in the same building.
All three are women obstetrician-gynecologists. Dr. Kunguma Sangeetha performs laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, and Dr. Nandhini G M handles gynaecological emergencies.

Gynaecological Emergencies
An operation is suggested only when monitoring or medicines have not been enough. At Kilpauk it usually runs like this.
Consultation and scan
Consulting and ultrasound rooms
The doctor examines you, does a pelvic ultrasound and shows you on the screen what she has found.
Deciding together
Same visit or a second one
You hear what the operation involves, what happens if you wait instead, and how long recovery takes. There is no pressure to decide on the day.
Tests before surgery
Blood sample collection area
Routine blood tests, and an X-ray if your doctor needs one, are done in the building.
Keyhole surgery
Operation theatre
Where it suits your case, the doctor uses laparoscopy (a few small cuts on the tummy) or hysteroscopy (no cuts at all), which usually means less pain and a quicker return home.
Recovery and review
Recovery and in-patient rooms
You rest in the recovery room and stay overnight in an in-patient room if needed. A review visit a week or two later checks healing and goes over the report.
From a first check-up to an overnight stay, without moving between buildings.
