First visit
Weeks 6–10
A dating scan to confirm the heartbeat and due date, routine blood tests, folic acid, and a talk about food, work and travel.
Early screening
Weeks 11–13
The NT scan and a blood test that screen for chromosomal conditions. The window is short, so your doctor books them at the first visit.
Monthly check-ups
Weeks 14–27
Blood pressure, weight and the baby's growth. The anomaly scan is due at about 18–22 weeks, and the sugar test for gestational diabetes at 24–28 weeks.
Every two weeks, then weekly
28 weeks onwards
Growth and position checks, iron and blood pressure monitoring, and planning for the birth at Kilpauk.
Most are picked up early at routine visits and handled without fuss.
Nausea and vomiting
From mild morning sickness to vomiting that stops you keeping fluids down, with safe medicines when needed.
Thyroid in pregnancy
Thyroid levels are checked at the first visit, since an untreated thyroid problem can affect the baby's development.
Gestational diabetes
Screened with a sugar test around 24–28 weeks, then managed with diet, monitoring and medicine if required.
Blood pressure
Checked at every visit. A rise can be an early sign of pre-eclampsia, so it is acted on the same day.
Anaemia
Very common in pregnancy. Iron levels are tracked and treated so you aren't exhausted by the third trimester.
Spotting or bleeding
Light spotting is often harmless, but it should always be checked with a scan the same day.
At Yaal Madipakkam
At Yaal's Kilpauk hospital
Pregnancy after fertility treatment, after a previous loss, or simply a first pregnancy can bring a lot of worry. Dr. Anuvigashini M holds a NIMHANS certification in perinatal mental health, so anxiety, sleep problems and low mood are treated as part of your check-ups, not left until after the birth.
Madipakkam sits between Velachery and Nanganallur, so check-ups fit around work for women in the Velachery offices and the Guindy tech parks, including Olympia Tech Park. A monthly visit is a short drive, not a trip across the city.

You have heavy bleeding, fluid leaking, severe headache or blurred vision, fits, severe abdominal pain, or your baby is moving much less than usual after 28 weeks. These need same-day care, not your next appointment.

Start folic acid ideally three months before trying to conceive and keep taking it through the first trimester. It lowers the risk of spina bifida in the baby.

The main miscarriage symptoms are bleeding, cramps and passing tissue. Most early losses come from chance chromosome errors, not anything you did. Learn more.
